Gemstone Classification: Natural, Synthetic, and Simulated

Natural Gemstones
Natural gemstones are those that form naturally in the Earth over millions of years. These stones are often treated to enhance their color and clarity, as natural gemstones can contain imperfections. Treatments such as heat, chemicals, irradiation, or laser processes are commonly used to bring out the best qualities in these stones, while preserving their inherent beauty.

Synthetic Gemstones
Synthetic gemstones, also known as lab-grown or man-made gemstones, are created in laboratories under high-pressure conditions. These stones are composed of the same minerals and have the same chemical and physical properties as their natural counterparts. Although they are produced in a lab, synthetic gemstones are not "fake"—they are real gemstones that are indistinguishable from natural ones in terms of composition, but they are created through a controlled process.

Simulated Gemstones
Simulated gemstones, often made from glass, resin, or other materials, are designed to mimic the appearance of natural gemstones. While they may look similar to real gemstones, simulated stones do not share the same chemical or physical properties. These stones are purely aesthetic and are used as an affordable alternative to genuine gemstones.

Important Note on Natural Gemstones
Because natural gemstones are formed through geological processes, each stone is unique. Minor imperfections and variations in color or size are typical and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Additionally, the process of cutting and polishing can also cause slight variations in appearance. As a result, bead strands or gemstone pieces from different batches may differ slightly in quantity, size, or color.
